We have received another submission, this time from Escola Mare de D\u00e9u de la Merc\u00e8, FEDAC-Sant Andreu in Barcelona. We thank them for taking the time to write!<\/span><\/p>\n

Hola, s\u00f3c l\u2019Helena, tutora del nostre assistent de conversa, el Kai Collins.<\/p>\n

Quan em van encomanar aquesta tasca em costava fer-me a la idea d\u2019una persona de parla anglesa voltant per la nostra escola. En pocs dies, no nom\u00e9s em vaig acostumar a aquest fet, sin\u00f3 que de seguida li vaig trobar els avantatges. \u00c9s un luxe poder comunicar-nos a l\u2019escola en angl\u00e8s en el dia a\u00a0 dia. Les nostres sales de profes han fet un canvi, s\u2019han enriquit. Igualment s\u2019han enriquit les classes, els passadissos, el menjador\u00a0 i els patis… A l\u2019Escola Mare de D\u00e9u dela Merc\u00e8, FEDAC Sant Andreu l\u2019angl\u00e8s ja no \u00e9s nom\u00e9s compet\u00e8ncia dels professors d\u2019aquesta llengua, ara l\u2019angl\u00e8s \u00e9s m\u00e9s viu gr\u00e0cies a la pres\u00e8ncia del Kai.<\/p>\n

Being a conversation assistant in Barcelona is the best thing I\u00b4ve ever done, especially in terms of work!<\/p>\n

Since arriving here at the start of October I have settled into Spanish life even though before moving here I had never spoken a word of Spanish or Catalan.\u00a0<\/span>When first arriving I felt so excited by what the next year or more had in store for me and the excitement hasn\u00b4t dwindled. I am now living with my second host family and both have been amazing at helping me to become part of their family whilst still recognising that I am an adult and treating me like one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having never considered teaching before moving to another country and\u00a0becoming one was a big\u00a0step, and one that I\u00b4m glad I made, teaching children from the age of 3 to 16 is great as \u00a0every lesson is different and I never get bored of the same old class all day. The teachers at the school have been amazing at helping me teach in class and feel welcome. My tutor has been especially good to me helping me with anything that I need, such as taking me to the hospital for appointments as I am diabetic and introducing me to her niece who teaches me Spanish. Moving to Barcelona was the best decision I’ve made\u00a0in a long time and I would highly recommend it to anyone (and already have!).<\/p>\n
